Kris Allen, greater things have yet to come…

Ok, so I was looking at various blogs and news on the net and came across this song sang by American Idol’s Kris Allen. The song, I believe is a Chris Tomlin song called God of this city. I admit it, at first listened to the song because I wanted to see Kris Allen sing a song that shows how much of a Christian he is. But as I began to listen to him sing and to the lyrics of the song I really began to hear it as a prayer for his city and his nation. I think I listened to it maybe 5 times in a row and just thought about the “greater things to come.” Let me explain.
My wife and I recently moved up to the Washington, DC area for the summer. We really believe that God has put us here for a short season to learn about Him and His goodness. In my short time here I have learned that DC has a rough spiritual climate. I think this is due in part by all the tons of people that come here with different religions, world views, philosophies, and the political power struggles that continually occur in DC. I often get overwhelmed by the blatant humanistic displays that happen here and sometimes wonder, “God what is my part in helping to share your love? I’m just one person in this huge humanistic machine.” In these moments my flesh says, “there is no hope.” By my spirit says, “there is hope! Because Jesus is the light in darkness and the hope for this city, this nation and this world!”
That is why I enjoyed this song so much! I feel Kris Allen is singing the prayer that anyone anywhere can sing and pray. I encourage you to listen to it and pray for your family, friends, city, country, and anything that tries to be in the place of God. No matter what, He is sovereign and over everything (and loves you).
So, sit back and soak it in… the lyrics are below the video if you care to read them.
God Of This City- by Chris Tomlin
Verse 1:
You’re the God of this city
You’re the King of these people
You’re the Lord of this nation
You Are
You’re the light in this darkness
You’re the hope to the hopeless
You’re the peace to the restless
You are
Bridge:
For there is no one like our God
There is no one like You God
Chorus 1:
For greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done
In this city
Greater things have yet to come
And greater things are still to be done here
Verse 2:
You’re the Lord of Creation
The Creator of all things
You’re the King above all kings
You Are
You’re the strength in our weakness
You’re the love to the broken
You’re the joy in the sadness
You Are
